Instant Pot Rice Recipe (White or Brown Rice)

Learn how to make rice in an instant pot following my Instant Pot Rice recipe! Make Instant Pot white rice or Instant Pot brown rice easily.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup long grain white rice or brown rice
  • 2 Tablespoons chicken bouillon
  • 1 small onion or half a large onion
  • 2 cups water use a 1¼ cups water ratio for firmer rice
  • ½ stick butter
  • Optional: sliced green onions

Instructions
 

  • Add water and rice to the Instant Pot.

  • Place onion in the center of the pot, surrounded by the rice. Sprinkle bouillon over the rice, avoiding getting any on the onion. Close and seal the lid.
    Instant Pot White Rice: Cook for 5 minutes on high pressure, then let it naturally release for 10 minutes.
    Instant Pot Brown Rice: Cook for 15 minutes on high pressure, then let it naturally release for 5 minutes. Finally, carefully quick release any remaining pressure.
    2 Tablespoons chicken bouillon, 1 small onion

  • Remove onion and add butter. Thoroughly mix until the butter melts and all is combined. Top with sliced green onions if desired, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Chicken bouillon, butter, and onion add so much flavor to regular rice. You will be amazed by how delicious this rice is on its own when you follow my instructions! However, you can also use simple salt and butter, or any flavorings you typically enjoy with rice. Instant Pot rice is great for making Spanish-style yellow rice, for example.
  • For super fluffy white rice, you can rinse the rice ahead of time by running it under cold water for 30 seconds through a mesh sieve. The water should run clear when it is thoroughly rinsed. This makes the rice extra fluffy after cooking. Note: this does not work as well as brown rice, which is less starchy to begin with.
