FAQs
Mushrooms should be sauteed for about 10 minutes, until they are nicely browned and caramelized. Make sure to keep an eye on them while cooking.
Mushrooms are naturally low in carbs and therefore great for a keto meal plan. Along with the garlic butter sauce they're cooked in, these steakhouse mushrooms make a perfect side dish for keto recipes.
To keep your mushrooms from getting soggy, make sure they're as fresh as you can manage and cleaned well. Clean them by patting with a damp paper towel or by gently rinsing and drying thoroughly. Do not skip drying them, as mushrooms absorb water and this is a common way for them to become soggy.
Sauteed mushrooms pair well with beef, pork, and chicken of all kinds. Try serving them as a side dish for a steakhouse grilled steak, pork ribs, a holiday ham, or roast chicken. Whatever you try them with, I guarantee they will be delicious!
You can easily saute other types of mushrooms in garlic butter the same way as these sauteed garlic mushrooms; however, be mindful there will be a timing difference depending on what type of mushroom you're cooking with. Whenever I don't have button mushrooms on hand, I usually saute mixed mushrooms.
Sauteed garlic mushrooms have no ingredients containing gluten and therefore are perfect for a gluten-free meal plan!

Sauce for Mushrooms
The sauce for mushrooms I use in this recipe is a garlic butter sauce. To make it, you will need:
- Butter
- Olive oil
- Garlic
- Parsley
- Thyme
- Salt and pepper
Sauteeing mushrooms in this incredible garlic butter sauce gives them so much flavor! If you like, you can try other fresh herbs as well. I find parsley and thyme to be a perfect combination for sauteed garlic mushrooms.
How to Saute Mushrooms
- Clean and dry mushrooms and trim any extra long stems. Set aside and add butter and olive oil to a large pan over medium-high heat. Allow the butter to melt in the pan.
- Add mushrooms to the pan and evenly season them with salt and pepper. Let them cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring now and then to allow the mushrooms to brown and caramelize. Don't stir too often, or they won't brown properly.
- Reduce the heat to medium and add garlic, thyme, and parsley. Cook for 1-2 minutes or until fragrant. Finally, give everything a good stir in the pan, then add to a serving dish. For best flavor, pour the pan drippings over top the mushrooms.
- Sprinkle with remaining parsley for garnish, and serve. Enjoy!

Recipe Tips
- Clean and dry your mushrooms well. Drying them well is especially important, as if the mushrooms are at all wet they may become soggy and will not crisp up well. So make sure to dry them!
- Try using other herbs of your choice with the garlic butter sauce. It is a great sauce to change up and try new seasonings with! You can also use dried herbs in place of fresh, though I find fresh parsley adds a ton of flavor more than dried.
How to Store Cooked Mushrooms
Store cooked mushrooms in the refrigerator or the freezer. To store mushrooms in the fridge, add to an airtight container or sealed plastic bag with the air pushed out for up to 4-5 days.
How to Freeze Cooked Mushrooms
To freeze cooked mushrooms, first allow them to cool. Once cooled enough, place them on a baking sheet and add to the freezer until frozen solid, about 30 minutes to 1 hour. Then, transfer to store them in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag. I like to portion them out into smaller freezer bags so I can take them out to use in portions.
Label with the freezing date, then store for up to 6 months. When ready to enjoy, allow them to thaw in the refrigerator overnight, then reheat on the stove.
How to Reheat Cooked Mushrooms
The best way to reheat cooked mushrooms is to add them to a pan over low to medium heat on the stove. You can reheat in the microwave, but I like the extra crispness heating them over the stove ensures.
What to Serve with Mushrooms
Try serving steakhouse mushrooms with grilled steak, roast chicken, or pork chops. They make a great side dish for dishes of all kinds, but these are my family's favorite dishes to eat with mushrooms:
