Pickled Red Onion Recipe Tips

  • Add a few cloves of garlic to your jar for a more garlicky pickled onion!
  • To make your pickled onions spicy, add a few freshly sliced jalapeños to your container.
  • If you want to naturally sweeten your pickled onions, I recommend using maple syrup or honey.
  • Whenever I slice my onion, I typically will slice them a little thicker for a crunch, but slicing your onions thinly will result in a quicker pickling process.
  • Play around with different vinegar options to find the perfect flavor for you!

Quick Pickled Red Onions FAQs

How long do pickled onions last?

Pickled onions can last up to 3 weeks in the fridge if stored properly in a jar or container with a lid.

How can I speed up my pickling process?

For a quick pickled onions recipe, thinly slice your onions. The more thinly you slice them, the faster they will pickle. However, even thicker onions will typically only take overnight to finish pickling with this quick pickle method.

How to Use Pickled Onions

  • Use them as a topping on your favorite burger recipe, like loaded burgers.
  • Add them to an arugula salad recipe (or your favorite salad!) for the perfect crunch!
  • Stuff pickled red onions into a roast beef sandwich.
  • Pile them high over Cilantro Lime Rice with your favorite veggies and protein for a rice bowl recipe that's out of this world!

One of my favorite ways to use up pickled red onions is for quesabirria tacos, but the uses are endless. Try one of my favorites above!

How to Store Pickled Onions

Store pickled red onions in a glass jar or container with a lid. Place in the refrigerator and store for up to 3 weeks. You can also freeze pickled onions! Store in a freezer-safe container and store for up to 6-8 months.
